Curbing internet advts on genetic kits in India

Internet giants Google and Microsoft have pulled adverts for sex selection products and other services considered illegal in India after being threatened with legal action, activists said Thursday.

India’s Supreme Court had last month asked the two companies plus Yahoo to respond to a complaint that they were illegally advertising do-it-yourself kits and expensive genetic techniques to find out an unborn baby’s gender……… Here’s the news article

In the US, I did a search of “gender determination” on Google. And I did see plenty of sponsored ads offering services and products to determine gender of the unborn baby. Here’s a screen capture of the 1st page of the search results.

And here’s another one when I searched for “gender selection” on Google. (Ads with “money back guarantee”, “96% success rate”, “20 years experience”….).

Of course, it is not illegal in the US to advertise such services and products.
