Sikh Code of Conduct & Kudimaari

January 19, 2008

Guru Gobind Singh, the 10th Guru of Sikhs, forbade Sikhs to associate with any kudimaar. Those Sikhs found guilty of kudimaari or even those who associated themselves with a kudimaar could invite excommunication. From my reading of Sikh history, I haven’t come across an instance of a Sikh actually having been excommunicated or punished for this crime. (Should you know of one, please let me know about it in the comments section.)

Rehat Maryada – the code of conduct for Sikhs – spells out this edict very clearly. (Section 4, X-l: A Sikh should not kill his daughter, nor should he maintain any relationship with a killer of daughter.)
