Amniocentesis: (also referred to as amniotic fluid test or AFT), is a medical procedure used in prenatal diagnosis of chromosomal abnormalities and fetal infections, in which a small amount of amniotic fluid, which contains fetal tissues, is extracted from the amnion or amniotic sac surrounding a developing fetus, and the fetal DNA is examined for genetic abnormalities. Egalitarian: Affirming, promoting, or characterized by belief in equal political, economic, social, and civil rights for all people.

Feticide or foeticide: the intentional act of  causing death of a fetus. It does not refer to the death of a fetus from entirely natural causes.

Gendercide: the systematic killing of members of a specific sex, either males or females. Term coined by Mary Anne Warren in her 1985 book ‘Gendercide: The Implications of Sex Selection’

Infanticide: an intentional act of killing a child

Kudimaar: (kurimaar) a person who kills a girl-child. Its usage is mainly in Punjabi language. Hence Kudimaari, the act of killing a girl-child.

PNDT Act: Pre-natal Diagnostic Techniques (Regulation and Prevention of Misuse) Act passed in 1994 to regulate female feticide in India. More here on PNDT Acts & Rules.

Sex-selective abortion: The abortion of a fetus based upon its sex. (more here …)
